Ways to be successful in math:

Get Help IMMEDIATELY!

  • Tutoring in the library - Math teachers are available (Check schedule for times - usually Monday through Thursday 2:30 - 4:30).
  • The classroom teacher is available for help (before school, lunch, and/or after school - ask your teacher for their schedule).
  • Request a "Reteach" worksheet for extra practice.
  • There are many videos by topic on the internet. (try Khan Academy)

Know your Grade!

  • Progress reports may be given upon request.
  • Aeries Parent/Student Portal - Your teacher may use the Parent Portal to post grades, if not, find out where their grades are posted and check them frequently.

Tips and Tricks for Success

  • Turn off your cell phone or music while working - even at home!
  • Ask questions in class.
  • Work ahead.  Read the chapter BEFORE class (or watch a video on the topic)
  • Work in a clear and logical order. Make sure a person who has never seen he problem can follow your work.
  • Keep up with homework.
  • Do homework for understanding, not just for credit.
  • Come to class every day. One missed day means missing a lot of information.
  • Ask to sit with other students who you work well with and are NOT a distraction.
  • Rework the problems you missed on your test, quiz, homework.
  • Take complete notes (rewrite/review notes within 48 hours, add comments to notes to make them more understandable, highlight important ideas, summarize main concepts).

Use Strategies ALL TERM

  • Start the class using these strategies.
  • Keep using these strategies during the entire class.
  • Don't give up!!
